Discovering methods to better manage waste solids in super-intensive shrimp ponds and tanks is essential to reducing the environmental impact of shrimp aquaculture and improving production. Recent work investigating the application of self-cleaning tank hydrodynamics to control waste solids in shrimp tanks shows promise.
In this study, the best results were achieved by supplementing a tank’s primary rotating flow with a secondary method that creates a radial current carrying waste solids to the center drain.
TCRS is collaborating with the Freshwater Institute to apply the research in commercial settings.
