Managing EMS at Shrimp Hatcheries

Early mortality syndrome (EMS) is a serious global disease that can cause 100 percent mortality of farmed shrimp in their juvenile stages. The affected shrimp die from hepatopancreas dysfunction and secondary Vibrio infections.

This course provides a close look at the most effective practices for controlling EMS at hatcheries, including sourcing disease-free broodstock; avoiding potentially infected live feeds; limiting organic loads in larval-rearing tanks; and regular system disinfection.
